Day 1: Eat somewhere new

by Jourdan Fairchild in

Ok ok, I know this doesn't sound like much of a challenge. But I do think it's easy to get stuck in a rut eating at the same old, same old places—particularly when you have your favorites...and when you're busy...and when you're cash strapped. But Chicago is full of the most amazing restaurants, and my list of "must visit" hot spots has been growing by the day. Well, we knocked the top one off of my list on my birthday (aka Day 1) when Andrew surprised me with dinner at avec. It's the eatery that virtually every Chicagoan with great taste claims is their favorite, hands down. So you can imagine I was pretty pumped about his pick—and that I could cross this challenge off of my list. We dined on chorizo-stuffed dates, squid ink pasta, and the most insanely delicious ricotta-stuffed, truffle flatbread. We ate, drank, and laughed our way through every dish, and man, were we happy. We reminisced about our past, talked about our future, and truly listened to each other. Even if we weren't celebrating a birthday meal, just the act of getting out of the house is something I recommend to anyone. You'll feel satisfied in more ways than one.DSC_0722original_2_original_interiorDesktop7
