First look: Sloane's purple bedroom!

Another (almost) finished paint project has been completed, and we’re all in love. Even the boss herself, who generally takes major convincing to move forward with a decision she hasn’t thought of first. I generally keep my expectations low and don’t expect to impress her, which makes actually impressing her that much sweeter. She has said from the beginning that she wants a purple and teal room, so that’s exactly what she’s getting…with my supervision. 😉

And if you’re thinking that color combo is giving Charlotte Hornets, I hear you. But it is possible to find a chic combo if you pick the right tones. Purple, in general, is having a bit of a moment, and I think it’s because the general public is finally expanding their interest in/acceptance of paint colors beyond navy and deep green. The secret to color curation (I believe) lies in its undertones, which is what makes this particular hue so gorgeous. Its name is Desert Mauve by Benjamin Moore, and it actually wasn’t my first selection. In the store, I selected a color called Wisteria, which was much cooler and more gray. I was attempting to avoid too much mauve in the house (our stairwell color is a deep mauve-pink-brown). But in doing so, I went too far to the cool side and it just wasn’t right.

So I revisited the samples and painted a square on the wall that’s a bit warmer, with pink undertones. I also pulled in the (very heavy) vintage rug that recently arrived for the room to see how it would look near the paint. The two couldn’t be more gorgeous together. We still have many more components to decide on and add to the mix, but this was a huge step forward in completing her dream bedroom. And just for kicks (and to remind myself how far we’ve come), here’s what this wall looked like in January.
