Revealing our next project: living room bookshelves!

We started working on this home in October of last year (after moving in August and finishing our rental property in early October), and we’ve already built a few arches and bookshelves in that time.

So we feel extra prepared for our next project: built-ins in the living room! We’re planning on adding four floor-to-ceiling custom bookshelves along the back wall. And of course they’re going to be more complicated than the previous bookshelves because I guess we like to torture ourselves like that.🤷‍♀️

A few secrets I’m sharing with you first:

1) the top shelf of each bookshelf unit will be arched — not just the arched front face of the shelf, but the entire interior (similar to the arches in examples 2 & 7).

2) The shelves themselves will likely be wood. We’re hoping to find a wood veneer we love that we either keep the existing wood tone or stain. Our thought is to veer lighter than darker in tone so that it looks complementary to the floors, and we think it’ll look really fantastic with the trim color (which is Benjamin Moore Cougar Brown).

3) We’re planning to add lighting in the form of three sconces. Sourcing those is on my list for next week!
