Back in 2021, I stepped away from client work. I was postpartum with our second baby, had moved to a new city in the midst of Covid, and then a thwarted renovation sucked up all of my time, creative energy, and spirit (and depleted a big chunk of our savings). After we renovated the house ourselves and vetted renters to move in, we purchased and moved into our current house. I was still healing and hoping to feel more settled in a city that still didn’t feel like home.

In this extended break from client work, I found an even stronger design point of view, learned loads of new skills, and figured out(ish) the beast that is social media marketing. Day by day, I was transforming spaces to feel more like us, testing out wild paint ideas and playing with color, pattern, and scale. But ultimately, I felt lonely showing up for people through the screen rather than in real life.

I was missing the people part of interior design.

In those years of running my first design business, Spruce Creative Studio, I learned how to help guide people to their own decorating decisions, as their time and budget allowed. But in this process, I discovered how monotonous the overall American aesthetic has become. How most people assumed they like what everyone else likes without actually examining how design makes them feel, and how skipping this vital step leads to impersonal, copy/paste homes. In those years, as much as I wanted to guide clients to more color and personality, I knew I didn’t have the time and they didn’t have the budget. And I slowly realized this truth:

The design style I love—thoughtful, creative, intentional interior design—requires time and attention and trust.

In this next season of my life, I want to design spaces that stretch me creatively. I want to work with local artisans to build heirloom-quality pieces that can be passed down among generations rather than pitched after a season or two. I want to be adventurous and playful, designing spaces that marry joy and sentimentality. And so I’ll be looking for creative partners that share this vision and have the resources to support this experience.

I’ll still be showing up on social media, sharing the ins and outs of designing our house (we’ve completed less than half the house in two years). But these changes take a bit of the pressure off Andrew to continuously be building and me to continuously be creating Reels. Partnering on home projects is quite possible one of our favorite shared pasttime, but it also leaves little time for anything else.

I won’t have the capacity to move forward with every inquiry I receive (and plan to be choosy about the projects, just as I hope people are choosy about me!), but I am offering virtual design sessions that I’ll release as my schedule allows, as well as a new shopping section of my website. Here’s a breakdown of my 3(!) new offerings:

1) Full-Service Interior Design:

This is the soup-to-nuts service for people looking to transform their home under the guidance of a designer, from concept to completion. Our approach is client-centered and extremely collaborative, and the goal is to help eliminate stress and incorporate more joy into the design process. We have a soft spot for older homes, where we can honor the history of the architecture while updating it with a modern point of view.

2) Virtual Design:

This service is the perfect way to have me weigh in on small design challenges such color palette decisions, a furniture layout that won’t seem to flow, or wallpaper or lighting selections. Each 60-minute session will involve an hour or prep work, the call itself, and a detailed follow-up email with links and photos referencing any ideas discussed on the call. I’ll be releasing 4 spots at a time via this newsletter first and then on Instagram, and payment will need to be made upon booking. After payment is completed, you’ll receive a questionnaire to fill out within one week prior to your call.

3) Shop My ___ :

If working with me one-on-one isn’t in the cards for you or you just want to shop my current favorite furnishings, this section is for you. I’ve finally created a place to link everything shoppable in my own home, organized by room, as well as curated collection of my favorite pieces currently available online.

A final THANK YOU, thank you, thank you to anyone who’s been cheering me on for years or even just discovered me recently. Without your support, I’m fairly certain this next chapter would not be possible. You’re just the greatest. <3
